During my MA, I have been exploring the topic of ‘luxury’ in the design industry. I have undertaken in depth research into luxury within the interior and fashion industries, during which I have gained a strong understanding of these sectors. I have also explored how luxury, and our shopping habits in general, have been affected by the pandemic. Supporting my research, I have created a breadth of elegant and sophisticated print designs suitable for the high end market, utilising my skills in hand drawing and computer-aided design.
Based upon my research throughout my MA project, my final collection began to take shape through meticulously hand drawn insect motifs, taking time to pay high attention to detail to create motifs that are elegant for the luxury market.
Using my insect illustrations, I began to build compositions, highly inspired by my love for natural history illustration. For my feature design, I was working towards creating an engineered placement print rather than a typical repeat, as I believe this evokes luxury.

Using marker pens to create a bright and fresh application of colour, my colour scheme for my final feature design was highly inspired by the bright yet subtle, feminine and elegant colours found in Japanese Woodblock prints.
My complete feature engineered placement design successfully evokes luxury and elegance.
Adding to my collection, I created an equally elegant placement print.
My final MA collection also features co-ordinating repeat print designs.
During my MA year, I have also developed adding subtle detail to my printed designs through digitally applied embroidery, using Wilcom. This successfully adds further intricacy to my prints, elevating their sense of luxury even further.
My final collection, titled 'Luxury in Nature'.
Visualisations show the versatility of my designs.
