The initial stages of exploration during my MA were strongly inspired by East Asian art styles such as Chinese Brush Painting and Japanese Woodblock printing, and also the ever-popular interior style of Chinoiserie. These influences led to an exciting and regal supporting luxury textile collection.
Initial drawing development was strongly inspired by the art of chinese brush painting. I practiced traditional methods using traditional materials before developing my own handwriting based upon this influence. During this stage, I challenged my use of scale, drawing expressively at a large size.
Screen printing was a vital stage of development to experiment with colour and layout.
This chinoiserie-inspired design leads the collection as the feature placement design.
This final supporting textile collection, similarly to the feature collection, successfully evokes luxuriousness and elegance, reflective of my research and intentions.
